Dear family & friends,
Yesterday was the students' first
day at the Igloo. In the morning, the students took their first language test.
This test determines their language proficiency and helps us teachers create class rosters. A second language test will be administered at the end of the program
to measure the progress the students will have made.
After the test, we played a game
designed to have everyone memorize everybody else's names.
At 12:00pm, we all had lunch at the
Igloo cafeteria. The food here is *really* good!
In the afternoon, Scott and I
distributed the bus guides and taught students how to read bus schedules (it
can be a bit tricky in Saint-Brieuc). We also gave the students the
long-awaited French cell phones! They are flip phones with no internet
capability. The students have unlimited texts & calls, and can listen to
the radio. That's about it. Scott and I being in our early thirties, we had a
lot of fun watching the new generation try to understand how to text with the
T9 system (Press 3 times for letter C), and watching them realize that they would be
stuck with it until mid-July. Despite the shocking technological regression,
the students had a lot of fun discovering older technology.
Next post will document our bowling
outing. Stay tuned!
